You see them here and there

You find them collected

In the strangest places

None where you think they should be

Nor where you want them to be

They are all discolored and discarded

What was once bright and shiny

Now is greenish and gray

Covered in dents and dirt

Occasionally you will see some silver

The silver is picked up

Generally reused

The pennies remain

What a waste of value

A waste of what can be

A collection of pennies

Is worth more than we might see
