Round Rock
(On the Chisholm Trail)
The paths they traveled
I stand in now
I walk in the same place
As they did
Some have their names in stone
Some only on wood, now gone
Some were never named
All were brave for the journey
They struggled as I do
They loved as I do
They looked to the sun
And the stars and the moon
I can see them in the paths
I sense their spirits
Hear their voices
Feel their pain
Their labors built this land
For their children and grandchildren
Their sacrifices have endured
For us and generations to come
Will someone someday
Hear me?
See me?
See my life as I have seen the others before me.
