Surprise!

In the first rays of light of the new dawn

The crimson leaves show through a fresh coating

A soft snow had fallen the night before

The air was still

The golden yellow of the dogwoods

Was dusted in white

Each delicate snowflake

Reflected by the warming rays

Maples showing their yellow with reddish tips

The snow kissing the brilliant reds and yellows.

But not smothering the bright hues

Nor overburdening any leaf

The lacy white blanket with the random green of grass

Fresh snow on the leaves of fall

Revealing the faded warmth of the summer past

And the coming cold of the winter
